Dry Running Rotary Vane Pumps
Elmo Rietschle’s dry running rotary vane pumps are engineered to deliver robust, oil-free performance for vacuum, pressure, or combination applications. Designed for reliability and environmental sustainability, these pumps eliminate the need for lubricating oil, ensuring clean and contamination-free operation across diverse industries.
The innovative design features include:
- Cooling Efficiency: Optimized cooling air pathways and vents reduce heat buildup, ensuring consistent operation even under demanding conditions.
- Thermal Separation: Suction and compression chambers are thermally separated within the filter housing, minimizing heat transfer and maximizing performance.
- Easy Maintenance: Maintenance and control panels are conveniently placed on one side, allowing quick access to filters and valves.
The dry running rotary vane pumps operate on the principle of pressure increase through volume reduction. As the rotor turns within the cylindrical housing, vanes slide in and out of slots, creating cells that draw air in, compress it, and discharge it through the outlet port. This oil-free design ensures quiet, reliable, and eco-friendly operation.

How It Works: Dry Running Rotary Vane Pumps
Inside the cylindrical housing, a rotor is positioned eccentrically, creating tight clearances with the cylinder walls. Vanes slide in and out of rotor slots due to centrifugal force, forming cells that change in volume during rotation. As air enters through the inlet port, the cell achieves its maximum volume. As the rotor turns, the cell's volume decreases, compressing the air until it reaches the outlet port, where it is discharged.
In vacuum pumps, the cell creates decreasing pressure relative to atmospheric pressure to generate suction. In pressure-vacuum models, additional inlet ports enable simultaneous vacuum and pressure generation, with the ratio between the two controlled by the design and configuration of the inlet ports. This allows precise adjustment of vacuum and pressure capacities to suit specific industrial applications. In pressure-vacuum models, additional inlet ports enable simultaneous vacuum and pressure generation, with the ratio between the two controlled by the choice of inlet port design. These innovative features make Elmo Rietschle’s dry running rotary vane pumps versatile and adaptable to a wide range of industrial applications.
The design ensures quiet operation, minimal maintenance, and optimized efficiency, making these pumps a reliable choice for industries seeking oil-free, environmentally friendly solutions.
